Bone Grafting

Bone grafting can be used to help restore bone that has been lost or damaged due to various dental conditions. For example, if a patient has lost a tooth or had a tooth extracted, the surrounding bone may begin to shrink or deteriorate over time due to lack of stimulation. This can make it difficult to place dental implants, which require a certain amount of healthy bone to anchor into.

In this case, a bone graft can be used to help regenerate the lost bone and create a more stable foundation for the dental implant. The bone graft material may be taken from the patient’s own body (autograft), from a donor (allograft), or from a synthetic material.

When should I see my Oral Surgeon?
If you are experiencing bone loss or are in need of a dental implant but do not have sufficient bone mass, you may be a good candidate for a bone graft procedure. The best way to determine if a bone graft is right for you is to schedule a consultation with your oral surgeon. We can evaluate your specific situation, discuss the various types of bone grafts, and help you make an informed decision about your treatment options.
