Pre-Prosthetic Plan
Pre-prosthetic surgery is the first step to getting dentures or prosthetics. After all, this surgery will prepare your mouth, ensuring there are no surprises in the procedure that will follow.
For some patients, pre-prosthetic surgery is very minor. This might be the case if you are a candidate for partial dentures. Depending on your medical needs, you may need more extensive pre-prosthetic surgery, especially when complete dentures are in your future.
Because dentures sit on the bone ridge, it’s important that your bone is the proper size and shape to hold your dentures in place. At Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery Associates of New Mexico, P.A., every surgery is customized to your specific medical needs. This means our doctors may recommend bone reshaping or smoothing to help prepare you for dentures.
Removing excess bone or gum tissue can help ensure your dentures will fit comfortably and securely. In fact, this helps prevent “sore spots” that can be caused by poor bone shape prior to denture placement.
Instead of continuing to suffer, schedule a consultation with our doctors. Our team is here to answer any questions you may have. From the initial examination all the way to post-procedure care, we will walk with you each step of the way.
